  • Count & Stack: a play mat with three circles numbered 3, 2 and 5, a tower of blocks on each, spare blocks below, and a puppy buddy beside the mat.

    New game: Count & Stack

Numbers sit beside circles on a play mat, and your child taps a circle to drop a block on it, one at a time, until each tower matches its number. Tap a tower to take its top block off again. There are always a few more blocks than the towers need, so your child has to stop at the right number.

It grows over four levels: two towers up to 3, with the buddy counting each block out loud, then towers up to 5, then three towers that your child checks for themselves before pressing Done, and last, towers that start out wrong and need fixing. When a round is finished the towers topple over and the blocks tumble back for the next one. It lives on Number Mountain.

    Softer, bubblier sounds

Leveling up, opening a present or the mystery chest, collecting task coins and getting an answer right now all sound soft and bubbly, to match the newest games. A wrong answer is a gentle bloop, never a buzzer. The level-up screen has a big blue Keep going! button in the middle, and when a new place opens, the buddy hops up to it with a happy bounce.

  • Letter Sandwich: a puppy buddy at a pink kitchen counter beside a sandwich on a plate, with two cards to choose from, Q with lettuce and q with cheese.

    New game: Letter Sandwich

Your child’s buddy is hungry and asks for one letter at a time: “Lowercase q, please!” Your child taps the right card, the big letter or the small one, and that filling lands on the sandwich. The asks take turns between uppercase and lowercase, and when the top slice of bread goes on, the buddy eats the whole sandwich.

It grows over four levels: clear big and small letters, then trickier ones like b, d, p and q, then three cards with a look-alike to spot, and last, an alphabet sandwich in order. It lives in Letter Lane.

  • StudyBuddies’ home screen in autumn: Baloo on his blanket in a golden meadow, pumpkins on one side and a hay bale with a pie on the other, orange trees and drifting leaves behind.

    Thanksgiving comes to StudyBuddies

All November long the whole place is dressed for fall. The home meadow turns golden, with pumpkins and a hay bale beside your child’s buddy, leaves drifting across the sky, and a turkey that wanders through now and then. The opening scene has a turkey too: it walks in to stand beside Baloo.

The website has its own fall look, with new paintings for day and for night, so a family on dark mode sees the same meadow after dark. And the Thanksgiving worksheets are free to print, in black and white or color.

  • Color Connect: four red dots joined by a red line, with dots of other colors scattered round them on a pale sky.

    New game: Color Connect

Dots of every color are scattered across the sky, and the buddy names one: "Connect the red dots!" Your child taps each red dot, or slides a finger from dot to dot, in any order. When the last one is joined, the red dots turn out to be a hidden picture: a heart, a rocket, a bunny and 28 more. It fills in with color and joins the row of pictures your child has made.

It grows over six levels, from two colors and simple shapes to all six colors (with look-alikes like red and orange side by side), two pictures in a row, and big pictures of up to fourteen dots. It lives in the Art & Music Studio.

Month Train: June being dragged into the empty carriage between May and July, with the buddy driving from the engine's window.

    New game: Month Train

The toy train is back with a new coat of paint, and this time its carriages carry the months of the year. Your child drags the right month into the empty carriage (or taps a month to hear it first), the carriage wiggles, the buddy cheers and reads the train, and off it toots.

It grows over seven levels, just like Week Train: one missing month, then the whole year, then all twelve in order, which month comes before or after, last month and next month, and finally how December rolls round to January. It lives in Shape & Time Town, right next to Week Train.

Week Train: Tuesday being dragged into the empty carriage in front of Wednesday and Thursday, with the buddy driving from the engine's window.

    New game: Week Train

A toy train pulls in with the days of the week on its carriages, and one carriage is empty. Your child drags the right day into it (or taps a day to hear it first). A right day slots in with a happy wiggle and a cheer, and the buddy, driving from the engine's window, reads the whole train before it toots and leaves. A wrong day floats gently back, and after two tries a hint reads the days around the gap.

It grows with your child over seven levels: one missing day, then the whole week, then all seven in order, then which day comes before or after, yesterday and tomorrow, and finally how Saturday rolls round to Sunday again. The week starts on Sunday, like a US calendar. It lives in Shape & Time Town.

  • Fixed: counting two dice

In Petal Counter and Monster Addition, when the buddy counted the dots on two dice, the numbers on the second die started again at 1 even though the buddy kept counting up. Now the second die carries the count on, so a 2 and a 3 count 1, 2, then 3, 4, 5, just like the buddy says it.

Shape Sorting Machine: a square being dropped into the blue square bin, a circle already in the red circle bin, a triangle riding the belt.

    New game: Shape Sorting Machine

Shapes ride slowly along a conveyor belt in a calm little factory, and your child drags or flicks each one into the bin with the same shape. A right bin lands it with a soft pop while their buddy names the shape; a wrong bin gently bounces it back to the belt to try again.

It is low-stimulation on purpose: the belt never speeds up, there is no timer, and nothing falls off (a shape nobody picks rides round and comes back). Pre-K and Kindergarten sort five shapes into three bins; first grade uses five bins and second grade all six. It lives in Shape & Time Town.

Petal Counter: the die shows four, and the buddy counts four pink petals on the flower, a number by each one.

    New game: Petal Counter

Your child rolls the die, counts the dots with their buddy, then grows a flower with that many petals, dragging each petal from a heap onto the flower. When they are happy with it they tap Check, and the buddy counts the petals together with them, a number popping up by each one.

If the count is off, the flower stays just as it is so they can fix it, with the die still showing the number to match. Pre-K and Kindergarten roll one die; first graders and up roll two, for up to twelve petals. Five flowers a game, in Number Mountain.

  • New: Classrooms for teachers

Teachers can now make a free class (while in beta) for up to 30 students. Each class gets a code: students go to studybuddies.education/class, type the code, tap their name and pick their secret picture, and they are in. No email or password for the kids.

The teacher dashboard shows who is practicing and what, and parents can link a child they already have at home to the class with the same code. Classroom accounts play the games only.

Baloo on the meadow catching a falling square in his basket

    New game: Shape Shower

Shapes rain down from the sky over the meadow, and Baloo stands below with his basket. He says one shape, and your child slides a finger to walk him left and right, catching the squares (or circles, or triangles) and letting everything else fall past. Seven in the basket and the round is done.

The little ones catch four friendly shapes with one other falling slowly. Older children meet diamonds and ovals, look-alikes like square and rectangle, a faster fall, and clue rounds where Baloo gives the rule instead of the name.

  • Monster Addition: the dice show three and four, the sum reads 3 + 4 = 7, and the orange monster cheers with seven eyes, each with a green number on it.

    New game: Monster Addition

Your child rolls two dice, adds them up, and gives a friendly monster that many eyes, dragging each one onto its face. Then they tap Check, and the monster counts its eyes out loud, a number popping onto each one.

If the count is off, it says whether it needs more eyes or fewer. After two tries a Hint button counts every dot on the dice together. Five sums a game, in Number Mountain with the other number games.

  • The Bear Dice board: blue bears on the buddy’s side, orange bears on the child’s side, and a big die in the middle with three of its four dots lit up as they are counted.

    New game: Bear Dice

Your child and their buddy take turns rolling a die. The buddy counts the dots out loud with them, then your child taps that many of the buddy’s bears to take them, counting each one as it hops across.

Whoever collects all twenty bears wins, or whoever has more after thirty rolls. Who goes first swaps each game, so every game is a fair race. It’s in Number Mountain with the other number games.

  • A wooden flower box with a tulip, a daisy and a sunflower, and a watering can.

    New game: Sound Garden

Your child’s buddy says a letter sound, and your child taps the letter that makes it. Every right answer grows a flower, and six flowers fill the garden.

It starts with two letters to choose from and adds more as your child gets them right. It’s in Letter Lane with the other letter games.

The covers of the two video series, Absolutely Unsupervised and Snack Quest.

    Videos for kids

Two short video series are now in the kids’ games. Absolutely Unsupervised is quick, silly science and math. Snack Quest is a five-part adventure about maps, floating, shadows and more.

Every child can watch the first episode of each series. A plan opens the rest.

    Clearer buttons and fewer surprises

The main buttons in the kids’ games are now blue, so the next step is easy to spot.

Before anything opens the Plans page, the app now asks first. A stray tap never takes a child out of a game.

  • A blue letter B being dug out of the garden.

    New game: Letter Collector

Children walk a garden, dig up letters and collect them. It’s in Letter Lane with the other letter games.

  • The Candy Count game.

    A how-to before every game

The first time a child opens a game, a short how-to shows what to do, so every game starts with a clear idea.
