Setting it up

  1. Make the accountWith your email and a password.

  3. Set up your childTheir name, their school year and their first buddy. For a child under 13 we record your name and email as your permission.
  4. Set a parent PINUse four digits to protect the parent area and Settings when your child uses the device.

What is checked

  • Every message your child types is checked before the buddy sees it.
  • A message that is not suitable is not sent on. Your child is shown which words were the problem.
  • Schoolwork is allowed for. A question about a war or the human body is homework, and is treated as homework.
  • Any flag can be challenged, and one that was a mistake stops counting straight away.
  • Worry is met with care. If a child writes about hurting themselves, the buddy answers kindly and points to a real person. It is never counted against them.

What you control

  • The school year, which sets how hard the games are.
  • Music, sounds, movement and background movement, each with its own switch.
  • The chat history, which you can clear.
  • The account, which you can delete from Settings.
  • Your parent dashboard, where you see study time, completed activities, subject practice, and the weekly plan.
  • The parent PIN. With it set, none of the above can be opened or changed without it, and no coin pack can be bought. Five wrong tries lock it for 15 minutes.

What is kept, and where

  • Stories your child writes stay on the device they were written on. They are not uploaded.
  • Progress is kept with the account, so it is there when you sign in on another device.
  • Your child’s grade guides the activities. You do not need to enter their birthday.
  • A bug report goes only when you send it. It opens in your own mail app with what went wrong and a few lines about where it happened, and nothing goes until you press Send.

How mistakes and rewards are handled

  • No leaderboards. Nobody is ranked against anybody.
  • Nothing earned is taken back. Not for a wrong answer, and not for a day away.
  • No essays written for them. The buddy helps a child put their own ideas in order.
  • Feedback explains the mistake. The buddy is instructed to point out what needs correcting and help your child try again.

Look before you sign up

Create an account with your email and a password, then follow the setup steps for your child. Each account includes 3 child profiles with separate progress. Extra profiles are available as a monthly add-on, starting at $2.49 for the first and adding $0.50 to the price of each next profile. Two extra profiles cost $5.48/month on top of your main plan. A free account includes the first 3 worlds, 10 activities a day, and 100 buddy messages a week, counting the buddy’s replies. Plans include every world, unlimited activities and up to 1,500 AI buddy questions per week. For a first plan, the weekly plan’s first week is free, or the monthly plan’s first month is half off.
